How should an organization manage UIID recovery securely?

Treat recovery as a business process, not a personal backup task. An Organization UIID may control application access, credentials and automated agents. Its recovery plan should therefore survive device loss, employee absence and staff changes.

Keep UIID Cloud enabled unless your organization has a clear reason not to. UIID Cloud stores an encrypted backup so losing one device does not automatically mean losing the identity.

Save backup codes outside the primary device. Store them somewhere the organization can access during an emergency. Do not leave the only copy on the same laptop or phone used for everyday access.

Set up more than one sign-in route. Depending on your configuration, available routes can include email, a UIID or .uiid file, a login certificate and backup codes. One route is a single point of failure.

If you export a .uiid file, treat it like a key. Do not store it in email, an unprotected shared drive or a Downloads folder. Use encrypted storage with access limited to the people responsible for identity recovery.

Choose the file’s security tier deliberately. Start with Data Backup Only unless the organization has a specific need for the file to support login or application authentication.

Test the recovery process. A written recovery plan that nobody has tested is only an assumption. Verify that the organization can access its recovery material without relying on one employee or one device.
