The short version: one route is a single point of failure. Set up a second before you need it.
The routes available to you, depending on your configuration: email, your UIID or .uiid file, or a login certificate.
Backup codes are separate, and essential. Save them when you create your identity. The moment you need them is the moment you cannot generate them.
UIID Cloud is your safety net. Left enabled, it keeps an encrypted backup so a lost device does not mean a lost identity. Switch it off and an exported .uiid file becomes your only copy.
Why this matters more here than elsewhere. With an ordinary service, a lockout ends in a password reset email. Here, your identity is genuinely yours — which also means recovery depends on the preparation you did in advance.
A five-minute checklist:
Backup codes saved somewhere you can reach without your phone
A second sign-in route configured
A conscious decision about UIID Cloud
If Cloud is off, a .uiid copy stored away from the device
