Why there is a choice at all: Not everyone wants their identity file to be a working key. Security Settings offers four tiers so you decide how much your .uiid file is allowed to do.
Disabled: The feature is off. No .uiid export is active, and the file cannot be used for anything.
Data Backup Only: Your file exists purely as a restore point. It cannot be used to sign in anywhere. This is the safest setting if your only concern is not losing your identity.
Login Support: Your file can be used to sign in to your own UIID account — useful as a fallback route if you lose access to your device.
Application Authentication: The broadest setting. Your file can also authenticate you to applications, scoped to a specific alias rather than your whole identity.
How to choose: Start at Data Backup Only. Move up only when you have a concrete reason, and only if you are confident about where the file is stored — the higher the tier, the more a leaked file is worth to someone else.
