What it is: A native, JSON-structured credential file that holds an export of your identity. You can export your full identity as a backup, or export a single alias on its own.
What you can do with it: Restore your identity, move it to another device, and — depending on your security settings — sign in with it directly on the main login page or authenticate to an application.
Treat it like a key, not a document: Anyone who can open the file and satisfy your security settings can act as that identity. Do not email it to yourself, store it in a shared drive, or leave it in your Downloads folder.
The important trade-off: If you switch off UIID Cloud and rely only on an exported .uiid file, that file becomes your only copy. Losing it means losing access. Keep at least one copy somewhere separate from the device it came from — an encrypted drive, or a password manager's secure file storage.
Our recommendation: Unless you have a specific reason to manage your own offline backup, keep UIID Cloud enabled as well. The two are not mutually exclusive.
