What you contribute: Idle storage and processing power from a device you already own — a laptop, a phone, a small home server. Idle capacity is the point; ARCTIC exists to repurpose hardware that would otherwise sit unused.
What it runs as: Dedicated, operating-system-specific software rather than a single app-store download, so setup depends on whether you are on Windows, macOS or Linux.
Being realistic about the cost to you: Contributing compute means using electricity and some of your device's capacity. If you are on a metered connection or a battery-constrained device, that is worth weighing before you join.
Where this fits in the bigger picture: Every node reduces reliance on a small number of centralized cloud providers. Resilience here comes from many participants, not from one operator's uptime promise.
