The unit: UIID is one of the seven core product units sitting directly beneath Web4 GROUP. It owns the identity layer — the foundation the other six layers are built on.
Why it comes first: The Ownership Thesis says every layer of the internet should trace back to something a person directly controls. That is only possible if there is a self-owned identity underneath everything else. Connectivity, compute, naming, software, applications and hardware all reference back to the identity issued at Layer 1.
What the unit is responsible for: The identity model itself — Core ID and aliases, device-based biometric credentials, verifiable credentials for AI agents — plus the public API and the UIID Cookbook that let other developers build on it.
