The short answer: Yes — and this is the question the whole architecture is designed to survive.
Your network is not a tenancy. The network is yours to run, not a rented space inside someone else's platform. Web4 is built so that individuals and organizations retain ownership of their own data, identity and digital relationships.
Your members are not locked in either. Members keep their own UIID, which is not owned by the network they joined. Leaving a network does not mean losing an identity — for them, or for you.
If you want to run it yourself instead: Web4 Lite is the open-source foundation on GitHub, and Web4 @home runs a Web4 network on very low-cost hardware such as a Raspberry Pi, documented at pi.linkspreed.com. Self-hosting means a leaner feature set in exchange for full control.
Why the code is public at all: An ownership architecture that cannot be independently inspected, forked and self-hosted is a claim rather than a guarantee. Publishing the foundation makes the claim checkable.
Where your data lives: Storage is not locked to one provider — you can point your network at Amazon S3, DigitalOcean Spaces, Backblaze, Google Cloud Storage, Wasabi, or a standard FTP server.
