What it is: BRIDGE is the browser built to open web4:// addresses — the addressing format used by LNS, Web4's own naming service.
Why a separate browser is needed: Ordinary browsers only know how to resolve https:// addresses. Because LNS names are tied to a person's Web4 identity rather than rented from a traditional registrar, opening them requires software that understands that concept — which is what BRIDGE is built for.
Current status: HELION, the browsing and routing layer BRIDGE belongs to, is still in development, and specific features and timelines may continue to evolve ahead of a full public release.
Other browsers: We hope that further browsers will add support for web4:// over time. Nothing is confirmed yet — until then, a Web4-capable browser like BRIDGE is required to open these addresses.
