Current status: LNS is in closed beta. Domains are not yet generally available. LNS will have its own registry, so names are issued within Web4 rather than through a traditional domain registrar.
What makes it different from a normal domain: A traditional domain is technically rented and can be repriced or taken away. An LNS name is designed to be owned outright and secured through your identity credentials rather than a recurring subscription. You are also not limited to a fixed list of endings like .com — you can create your own top-level domain.
Getting in early: Write to [email protected] and mention the LNS beta. LNS is closely tied to HELION, the browsing and routing layer, so capabilities and timelines may continue to evolve ahead of full availability.
