Do I need a crypto wallet, tokens or a blockchain to use Web4?

No. UIID does not require Web3 technology such as a wallet, and it is not built on a blockchain.

Why people ask: Web4 follows Web3 in name, and Web3 tied ownership to a ledger. Web4 takes the ownership idea further but does not take the blockchain with it.

How identity works instead: Your UIID is a device-based, biometric-secured credential held on your own hardware. There are no keys to fund, no gas fees and no tokens to buy.

What Web4 does build on: Established, community-reviewed standards — Decentralized Identifiers (DIDs) and Verifiable Credentials, both W3C standards — rather than proprietary or ledger-based alternatives.

The difference in one line: Web3 gave you ownership of one layer, the ledger. Web4 extends ownership across all seven layers without requiring a ledger at all.
